AbstractĪlmost two decades ago, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) was confronted with a vicious cycle of internationalised armed conflicts in which between six and ten million people are estimated to have been killed. This article is a revised version of a paper presented at the Seminar on Peacebuilding in Southern Africa held by the Southern African Centre for Collaboration on Peace and Security (SACCPS) in Lusaka on 20-22 September 2013 ( ).
